"You're it...!"

Do you know who your Guardian Angel is?

That's a question that Chay asked me when he and I were alone driving in the car. I was surprised by the random question, and told him I didn't know. Without hestitation, he told me
"I know who mine is".
"Who?"
"It's Nana. (Dave's paternal Grandmother) When she got my picture she showed me to all her friends".
"She was so proud to see her great grandson and knew that you would carry on the Gathers name".

Shortly after showing off her great grandson, Nana unfortunately passed away before seeing her precious Chay face to face. We were fortunate to fly out to New York as a family and attend her funeral service.

I agree with Chay and believe that Nana is his Guardian Angel, watching over him. Lately Chay has been putting in a lot of thought about the spirits of loved ones visiting us, and remembering stories that Dave has told him about his experiences.

I don't know if I have one special guardian angel that has taken me under his/her care but I do believe that we are each surrounded by loved ones that have passed through the veil and are watching over us and protecting us on a daily basis. I believe that coincidences are miracles that are happening because our Heavenly Father is truly there watching over His children. I believe that after we leave this mortal life, we will reunite with our families that have died before us and will find out that each one of them has also been watching over us and helping us in whatever way we needed at any time in our lives. I believe that as we live, we are answers to individual prayers. I know that years ago, I must have been the answer to Dave's prayers because we were brought together because of different "coincidences" and despite me initially not being interested in dating Dave, he knew I was "the" one and stuck it out, enduring the torture I put him through until I "saw the light" (and I don't mean any of that in a conceited way, he was and continues to be more spiritual than me and upon meeting me, "knew" that I was to be his wife. Isn't that romantic?).

As a nurse working on the neuroscience unit with pts with brain trauma, brain tumors, strokes, all neurological disorders, I know that I was the answer to prayers of loved ones praying to have their family member watched over, protected and kept safe. There were MANY times when I would be busy doing something and then get the thought to check on someone and act upon that thought and walk into a room to find an unstable pt just starting to climb over the siderails, starting to pull out a central line, or starting to have respiratory problems...the list goes on. I would be so thankful that I acted upon that thought and prevented a negative experience, thus, the answer to someone's prayer. The most humbling experience I had on the neuro floor was when I sat with a daughter, supporting her, while her mother passed a way. She said many kind words to me afterwards and genuinely compared me to the Savior. The main joy I find in nursing is being able to make a positive psychological difference for the pt and the pt's family. I may not be "saving" lives working at the Moran Eye Center but, I hope I'm stilling making a difference.

When Blade was about 1 1/2 years old, he wanted a helium balloon that was trapped in the front peak of our vaulted ceiling and had been for days (the top peak in the picture below. And that "thing" on the ledge is an upsidedown gargoyl that we saw years ago and cracked up in laughter and it has been with us ever since).

When I was on the computer, Blade was by the railing (a room length a way from the peak) saying "balloon", I looked to see that the balloon was trapped in it's peak and then looked a way to continue on the computer. I heard him say "balloon" again with a change in his tone only seconds later and looked to see that this balloon was now right in front of him where he could grab the attached ribbon and hold on to the balloon. I was stunned, this defied any laws of physics. I knew that one of Blade's great grandmothers was watching over him and could not deny her grandchild the balloon. I tried to logically figure out how this could have happened but just gave up because there was not a logical explanation. (the furniture you see in the above picture was once Nana's, and so she is always close to us as sitting on the furniture is like being in her apartment)

So, who is your Guardian Angel? Who are you the Guardian Angel to? I think "you're it" to everyone!

This is President Monson's pledge from when he was ordained an apostle. Quote: "I pledge my life, all that I may have. I will strive to the utmost of my ability to be what you would want me to be. I am grateful for the words of Jesus Christ when He said: 'I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him."' End Quote

I think we all made the pledge when we came into this mortal existence and that qualified us to be guardian angels to 'those who could hear our voices'.... unfortunately,(I'll speak in the first person now...) my pledge got lost many times. How wonderful that Chay can hear and feel his 'NANA'... !

It makes me think about all those that have gone before us...they're saying..."GET OUR GENEOLOGY DONE SO WE CAN HAVE OUR BLESSINGS TOO!"I have had those feelings many times.

I love those car rides - I remember all the driving I did with Zak - I miss those opportune moments when I could feel of his spirit, of his hurt, of his frustration. I never car pooled for that reason alone!

CHAY.... good on you. Maybe you could write a little booklet about your NANA so your children and grandchildren can remember the great lady I know she is. I remember a book that Papahashi made for Judy for Christmas on the Mac....that would be the ideal.

So who is my guardian angel- I think it is my twins, Bretton and Barton. They help me to know that someone is waiting on the other side and it makes me reach to greater heights to be with them again.

I too have had "my pledge" get lost at times.

I don't doubt that Bretton and Barton are watching over you ak and cheering you on! What joy they must feel as they watch their Mom striving to be her best and keeping them in her thoughts and being one reason for her motivation to excel.

I love thinking about how thin the veil can be at times! I have no doubt that we all have guardian angels watching over us. I know i have felt the hands of guardian angels in my life. Though I can't say who mine they might be.

I feel that Mikes mom has been very influential in his life, from the other side- Where the grass truly is greener! And I have had a few distinct moments where I have felt, or learned of her presence here with my kids.

Shortly after brylie Turned 2 I had an experience looking through old photo albums with her Copy and paste the link below for the full story.

I agree fully that coincidences are miracles! The story of how mike and I met proves that!

Chay is one special kid to be giving his guardian angels so much thought! Most kids aren't that fine tuned.

I love that story of Blade and the Balloon! How amazing to have Guardian angels watching over us! and how amazing to see their hands at work!

Talking about guardian angels and Wilma and Angie's "coincidences are miracles" comment... a friend sent this to me last night!

START MESSAGE
The 'L I T T LE' Things. . .As you might know, the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was HIS turn to bring donuts.

One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time.

One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike
because of an auto accident.

One of them missed his bus.

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change.

One's car wouldn't start.

One went back to answer the telephone.

One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have.

One couldn't get a taxi.

The one that struck me was the man
who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work.
But before he got there, he
developed a blister on his foot.
He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am
Stuck in traffic,
Miss an elevator,
Turn back to answer a ringing telephone...
All the little things that annoy me.
I think to myself,
This is exactly where
my GUARDIAN ANGEL wants me to be
At this very moment..

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong,
The children are slow getting dressed,
You can't seem to find the car keys,
You hit every traffic light,
Don't get mad or frustrated;
It NAY be just that SOMEONE is watching over you.

May Love continue to find you
With all those annoying little things
And may you remember their possible purpose.

END MESSAGE.

Personally, the more I think about it, IN THIS CASE(message), this is the personal inspiration of Heavenly Father in each of these cases. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

ANGIE: your link doesn't work for me. AK

Wilma - this was a great posting that has some wonderful comments.

In July the Bishop in our ward issued a challenge to the ward to read the Book of Mormon in 85 days. With that he promised those who accepted the challenge would experience miracles and ministering angels. The date for the challenge to end was Sunday, October 5th. I have been overwhelmed by the experiences that members of the ward have shared with me in the past few weeks.

I believe in miracles and like the Alabama song - I believe there are angels among us, sent down to us from somewhere up above.

Moroni 7:29-30
29 And because he hath done this, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased? Behold I say unto you, Nay; neither have angels ceased to minister unto the children of men.
30 For behold, they are subject unto him, to minister according to the word of his command, showing themselves unto them of strong faith and a firm mind in every form of godliness.

Elder Holland's talk in the Saturday afternoon session of Conference was about the Ministry of Angels. It ties in perfectly with this post and the comments.

What a great talk - I heard it at conference time but I just now learned of 'ministering angels'. Thanks PAPAHASHI, Chay, and Wilma for following the spirit. I now know that 'FAITH' is a large part of ministering angels.

I give thanks for all those ministering angels both beyond the veil and mortal who make my life better. It's strange how I have learned so much from 'participating'.

Now it makes sense of Blade's faith in getting that balloon down - he still knows how to do it...as we get older we get doubtful and NOW I understand why Heavenly Father says, "We need to become like little children or we shall not enter the kingdom of God."

It's a GOOOOOOD THANKSGIVING!!!!!

I'm going to look up that talk and read it. Thanks Doug for that information. And thanks ak for your comments because they have made me think more and made me more eager to read what Elder Holland had to say. Again, coincidence that Chay brought up such a profound topic with me, coincidence that even I decided to start a blog? I'm thinking...Not...

it worked for me.

OK...finally because I have ENLARGED print so I didn't get all of the address.

What a special story. It reminded me of when Aunty Sunao passed away. Josh(Blair/Liz) was just a baby(or quite young) and I watched him during the service. He didn't know me so he started to cry and then I went to a different part of the building where I could hear the service and hugged and rocked him saying "Grandma Sunao loves you"... over and over again and and within second he settled down. It was quite amazing....!

I really believe that although the words are not there - they understand pictures and feelings of the spirit.

Thanks for sharing your story!
